Welcome to my wonderland

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?”― Lewis Carroll

Childhood Flashback

“Let's go to the park Tyler?” chirped young Veronica, they both sitting outside of their apartments with nothing but time on their hands. “It's almost dark, I doubt anyone is going to be there.” he replied but the two decided to go ahead and walk the few blocks to see if any of their friends were there.

The night was approaching quickly and the streetlights would soon be on. Most kids would be inside their homes at this time, sitting down for a home-cooked meal. But, not for Tyler and Veronica. At their homes there was nobody making dinner, - not usually. The kids would have to fend for themselves which normally would have theft involved; or a once in a while courtesy pot of stew from the old cat lady in apartment 1B.

“Stop walking so fast, we still have time.” said Veronica as she tried to keep up with Tyler, he was taller than she and much faster but he would never leave her behind. “Hurry up!” he replied and slowed down his pace to meet hers. Soon arriving at the neighborhood park and just as she thought there were some kids there still. “See, I told you people would be here.” Veronica smirked and took off running over to where the swings were and where all the kids were playing. Tyler came up behind Veronica and she was just standing there staring blankly into nothingness. “V?” he questioned as he noticed her expression and body language. She was standing still like a statue and any color she had was drained from her face. She didn't speak, didn't blink... would just breathe.

Tyler stepped in front of the young girl, his hand waving in her face. “Veronica!” he spoke again, this time a little louder. “What is wrong with you?” he asked with both aggravation and fear in his voice. Still, she just stood there motionless and expressionless. The pink of her lips was now fading away and her orbs became a dark hue of amber. Suddenly Veronica began to mumble to herself and Tyler brought his ear closer, trying to recognize what she was saying. He had no idea, couldn't tell, had never heard the possible language or gibberish before.

Veronica finally turned her head towards him and whispered in his ear. “I want to go home.” she said with a hint of sorrow to her tone. “Are you okay?” Tyler asked and took her small hand into his, beginning to walk her back home. “Those kids are mean.” she said frowning, the color coming back to her face now. “What kids?” he said confused, he hadn't seen anyone.
