Missy.

Based off of this status post going around.

I thought it would be a fun exercise to actually answer this.. So!
Now you can learn about my interpretation of The Mistress.

Here is the raw breakdown.

1. What would completely break your character?

It's my belief that this wouldn't take much. I'd even go as far to say that she is already broken, but who really knows what rock bottom actually is? Things can always get worse. The charm of Missy is that she's simply the master of holding it together. I believe she lives in the realm of rock bottom and simply flops around there because what does she have to lose? What does she even have? What does she have to live for?

Missy is lonely.

Notice how she has gone from the character that goes and tries to take over the world and blow everything up to the character that actually confessed her want to be back in the Doctor's life. I took that as a sincere act, maybe because Michelle Gomez is that fantastic of an actress and I totally fell for her little confession.. or because from the character, it was real. But I don't quite know if she even know what she really wants. She reaches out to take something but doesn't know what to grab. I believe there's a reason why.

So, here's a fun fact that I'm sure that most people don't actually know about. So, obviously, the New!Who brought on this whole drumbeat thing that drove her into insanity and broke her.. but classic Who has a much more interesting version that I have brought into my portrayal of the Mistress and I find it far more fitting, especially for Missy.

Back when the Master and the Doctor were children, we don't really know all that much about their friendship but this story gives us a glimpse of it. When the two were young they were bullied by another Time Lord. They were beat on, they were tormented by this other child. When one was being attacked, the other would sit by and sort of watch because... well, the other would just get beaten too. There was no resentment between the children for not stepping in to fend the bully off, the understood. Sometimes that's just the life of being bullied. Yet, one day that changed. The Doctor stepped in and hit the bully with a rock trying to stop him from hurting The Master.... except....

He killed the bully.

The Doctor and the Master used to dream about the stars, much like any other child, but when they realized what had happened, they realized those dreams would be destroyed if anyone found out. So, they disposed of the body, hand in hand.. and watched their mistake burn away. The two never spoke of it again but they did not escape their crime.

Death came to the Doctor in a dream not too long later and spoke with him. Death offered to make a deal with the Doctor that either he would come with her and become her champion or she could take the Master.

The Doctor shouted, 'Take him'.

As fate was meant to go, the Doctor was meant to take on the role of the Master, he was meant to be the one who caused death and pain throughout the universe and the Master was meant to be the one who stopped him. The Master was meant to be the one who was good.

So, there is a theory here that the Doctor came to being who he is not, who he was not meant to be... because of the Master. He is who he is out of guilt because he is the one who condemned his best friends fate and essentially destroyed his life. And perhaps that is why we, at times, see this version of the Doctor who is darker and others see it and see how that is his true self. How he would make a good Dalek, etc. Perhaps he keeps his chin up and behaves because he knows what he is meant to be.

So, with that said...
The Mistress is already broken. She has been since she was a child, she has been because of the Doctor.

What was the best thing in your character's life?

That.. is a good question. My version of the character, she has essentially two good things in her life, things that keep her grounded and that's the Doctor and Skye. Outside of that she really doesn't have much.

The canon version of the character... That's actually a bit hard because I am questioning what she would say, not me. Honestly, she would probably say that it's herself. We all know she's self obsessed. She's a genius and to her, she really doesn't need much else. She can take and have anything that she wants.

Wouldn't be her TARDIS.
Not her gadgets.
Nothing material...
Just herself... and the Doctor. She wouldn't be alive without him.

The worst thing in your character's life?

I'm sure in many ways the Master would have said it was the Doctor. I'm sure even she would comply with that if she was in one of her selfish states. OH! NO!  HUMANS! Companions of the Doctor. Those are the worst things in her life because they take away her man's attention. x]

...And easily, they are also the best things because they are easy targets.

What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?

For this I am going to have to go with the broach. Why? So,... Throughout all the episodes of Doctor Who, all of the prose, all of the audiobooks, all of the comics... this is the first time (that I know of) that there has ever been mention of the Master having a child. So when we all found that out, that seemed to be mind blowing. What makes it insignificant is that.. this is the first time we've known about it making it believed that the child itself is not significant to the Master. We don't know anything about that child.. We don't know if it is a love child, we don't know if it's some spunk got into a woman that wasn't meant to..

YET! The Doctor gave this to Missy.. so there was something about this child having some importance for the Doctor to even know about it. If Missy is wearing it then it has to have some importance to it.

Also... why the hell would the Doctor give the Master a broach?
Think on that, eh?
Hell, we don't even know if she was telling the truth about it.

Yet, this broach has really fascinated me since it was pointed out.

Does your character work so that they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up their time when they aren't working?

I feel like that's a trick question for a Time Lord. Missy works, aka.. destroys things, so that she can have time to see the Doctor aka, her hobby.

What is your character reluctant to tell people?

I believe her loneliness/boredom is what she doesn't want to admit to. That she is tired, in many ways. Again, I have seen a huge difference in her from the Master to now. I believe that partly stems from something that may have happened to her within her last regeneration. When we take into consideration what happened.. The Master was tearing apart at the seems. We are told that he was revived by the Time Lords to stop the Time War, but when he saw it.. he ran from it because he was scared.. and then he's standing beside the Doctor against the Time Lords and is brought back to the place where he is so desperately trying to get away from.. I believe that this regeneration took A LOT of out of her and changed her.

Part of me thinks that she's a bit more sane in her own way, her eyes are opened up a bit more. She's definitely not sane but.. to her.. she doesn't want to rule things anymore. She doesn't want to take over.. I think she's seeing the world a bit more now and living it up, having fun in the ways she knows how.

How does your character feel about sex?

Wait, wait.. I have a gif for this.

...But her name is also the Mistress so we can simply assume that her sex life is a whirlwind of.. very naughty things.

How many friends does your character have?

......Uh.......
Canon:
1. The Doctor.
My Missy
1. The Doctor
2. Skye

How many friends does your character want?

...That's cute. She already has what she wants.

Would your character make a scene in public?

Pretty sure that's the only thing she does in public.

What would your character give his/her life for?

Not much, to be honest. For the character portrayed in the show, I believe the only thing she might consider giving her life for would be the Doctor. I am a firm believer that the only thing she is okay with killing him is her but I also believe that she has enough little ways and things set up that even if she were to die, something would happen in some way that she would come back. Not necessarily regeneration.. Either a group would bring her back, someone.. something.. She's too evil to die for good.

I think she knows that the Doctor would not have that same mentality to live forever, therefore she would willingly let herself die if it meant keeping him alive. Without him she would truly have nothing... and I don't mean that romantically.. I mean I think she just needs him to give herself a challenge and worth.

What are your character's major flaws?

My character is one big major flaw. She's tough, don't get me wrong.. but she is also a lot of bark. She will kill anyone and everyone that gets in her way but.. the moment things head south, the moment something goes wrong.. she will run. She will bitch out of situations for self preservation reasons. That's why she loses.

What does your character pretend or try to care about?

I am pretty sure that I have already answered this... but.. let's see if I can come up with a different sort of answer. We all know that Missy is about as self absorbed as it gets. She really doesn't give much into pretending at any point in time. If she is to pretend, she is only pretending because at that point in time the person or object she is caring about has some sort of value to her. She can use it to her advantage. The moment that that person or thing no longer can serve her purpose or use? Then that's it.

How does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?

I am pretty sure that this one has already been answered as well. Missy is the big badass bitch. She's not the one you f*** with, she's not the one that you let your children around.. she's the one you run away from and stay away from. She will not open to others (unless you're Skye) or the Doctor. I don't think she is projecting anything too different than what she actually is. She is an evil bitch who is constantly in a state of boredom, therefore she does big evil things to entertain herself and seeing the Doctor irked, him going after her, is just a way of her getting attention.

Even bad attention is something.

...But she's still easy to run from a fight and that part is what she keeps hidden.

What is your character afraid of?

Death, simply. Not dying, not changing forms.. just being gone. She knows what happens when we die. She is Death's champion, she absolutely knows what happens. I think she's afraid of being nothing, being gone.
