Armada: Crossroads

[Approximately 15 BBY]

Geonosis. Some say it was the beginning of the Clone Wars. Even though the puppets had all been in place well before the first battle of Geonosis . In truth it merely was the first official battle between Republic forces and Separatist forces. Throwing the galaxy into a long war that would see the end of the Republic, Democracy and the Jedi. That word stung every time he thought of it. The vows he had taken. The vows he had renounced when he freely joined the Empire and became Vader's apprentice.

He stopped himself before the memories and guilt came back to haunt him. He survived...better than most even in an upside down world.

The sound of mechanical breathing brought him back to the present. His eyes looked upon the planet of Geonosis its rings which once had a large amount of asteroids now were barely visible dust. All resources from both the rings and the planet had been strip mined for the construction of a horrible weapon. The fleet sat in a very high orbit above the planet. Between them and the planet lay a grey sphere. Codenamed Project Celestial Power it was the final realization of a superweapon that had been dreamt up thousands of years ago by the Sith when they were at the height of power. He could barely understand the dark side traits that made such a weapon possible.

"Tell Grand Moff Tarkin we are ready for his...demonstration." Vader's voice came.

The door behind them hissed open as both men turned and instantly dropped to a knee as Emperor Palpatine entered the observation deck.

Rie looked at the floor as he shielded his mind from the most dangerous man in the galaxy. Rie had found out long ago that this man....this monster had orchestrated the entire war....the Clone Wars had been his doing. The downfall of the Jedi the loss of so much life.

"Rise." Palpatine said with a simple hand gesture. Then a cackled laugh.

"Your apprentice does poorly in shielding his thoughts." Looking Rie straight in the eye as he rose from his bow.

"I..." Palpatine held up his hand silencing Rie.

"You will not speak unless I speak to you. You are nothing to me but a left over from a simple minded and idiotic cult that disgraced the force."

Rie's fist tightened at the insults. He knew the Emperor was trying to get a rise out of him.

"As you wish my Lord." Rie said in a very neutral tone.

Pressing a button on the communications station in front of them Palpatine gave the order to fire.

The fleet moved off slightly so that it would not be in the blast radius as the superlaser dish powered up shooting six beams of green energy to a focusing point on the dish which created a massive beam of energy that shot out directly into the planet. The explosion was almost instantaneous as the beam ate through the crust of the planet and ignited the molten core inside. With a flash the planet exploded sending debris in all directions.

The Emperor clapped with a certain sadistic glee as he cackled in laughter. Vader stood as still as a statue with his arms crossed in front of his chest. Rie stood silent pushing down the nausea he felt as all life on the planet was decimated sending waves through the force.

"Give Tarkin my compliments." The Emperor said as he turned to Vader.

"You and your apprentice will meet me in my chambers as soon as you return to Coruscant. I have an urgent mission that must be undertaken."

"As you wish my Master." Vader said with a nod of his helmeted head.

Then he was gone. He left the room and instantly Rie felt his feet rise off the ground as an invisible hand gripped his throat.

"How many times do I need to tell you that your mind is to be sealed whenever he is anywhere near you?" An angry mechanical tone came from the emotionless helmet of his master.

He did not struggle. In truth he could barely feel the punishment. He spoke in a labored manner.

"He broke through all the walls I had up."

"Then make them stronger for if you don't you will be a liability I can no longer afford." Vader said as he released his apprentice.

"There is no honor in this..." Vader said to himself as he left the observation room leaving Rie leaning against a railing his orange eyes watching what was left of Geonosis as the Death Star jumped into hyperspace.

[Approximately 10 BBY]

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Tiet asked for the third time.

Rie could not help but smile. They were both in the firing line now. Their mission into the Way Outer Rim having produced something neither of them had thought possible. An alliance of over twenty star systems all wishing to withdraw their Imperial rule for their own government. It was a dangerous move but a needed one.

Remembering the day he had gotten this assignment five years prior on Coruscant he never thought this would be possible. The Emperor had feared something on the edge of the galaxy between the deep darkness between galaxies. Thus he had sent a massive fleet with the task of carving out a separate and secret empire outside the empire.

His Jedi ways had gotten the better of him though. Instead of the pure dictatorship that most of the rest of the galaxy was under...Rie's...Dominion had a form of democracy that had died with the Republic. Not a true civilian democracy but a democracy.

The shuttle jumped out of hyperspace at one of the Empire's farthest outposts. Tera Novera. It was one of ten hardpoint connections to the main archives housed on Coruscant. Rie was one of the few that had direct access, and today he was going to need it.

"As soon as I am on planet I want you to head back to Protectorate fleet and stand by for my messenger."

"Who will it be?" Tiet asked.

"An old friend..." Rie said. "She will have a red double mark on her right sleeve...if anyone without that shows up and fails the pass phrase...shoot on sight."

"Agreed." Tiet said.

The shuttle stopped hovering several kilometers above the only city on the planet. The shuttle drop door opened with a rush of atmosphere shooting into the ship. Rie placed his hands on his two lightsabers as he the finished clicking on the small black jet pack to his back. The systems readouts coming on the inside HUD of the helmet he wore.

Tiet gave a thumbs up signal and Rie jumped. Falling several kilometers before the jet pack began to slowly slow his descent. It was night time so he fell in pure darkness.

He hoped his contact would soon be here if not already here. His message to her had been short. He just hoped that the message had gotten through untraced.

Message:

Joi I need you to meet me on Tera Novera on the following date ######$#@#. Come to the only cantina open and find me. This is urgent.

Rie.

Armada: Protectorate

[Approximately 1 year BA]

Starsystem: Ra'gna

It had been nearly twenty years since the events of the Fallen War which had ravaged the galaxy and ultimately shattered the powers that had been. From that chaos he had formed the Dominion on the ashes of those that had fallen with a new view on the galaxy. At its head Rie Basoar named Protector...formally Premier of the Dominion and its protectorates. Since its formation it had been aggressively recruiting member planets and systems to its cause with a war weary galaxy abroad most just wanted a semblance of order of peace even if it came by the hand of military might.

Standing on the bridge of the Titan's Fist, an Imperium Ultra-Class Super Star Destroyer, Rie clasped his hands behind his back as he watched the swirl of hyperspace through the forward view ports. Alarian the Titan's Fist's AI counted down the last ten seconds before they emerged from hyperspace. In front of them a backwater system with a couple habitable planets.

"Begin deep scans of the system...I want to know if there are any signs of advanced civilization in this system." Admiral Tiet spoke as he walked up next to Rie. Tiet was the second in command and was also Rie's closest friend.

"What are the reports from the other fleets?" Rie asked.

Tiet held up a data pad and called up the information. "So far we have successfully negotiated ten more systems to join our Protectorate status. Most are lush in resources we desperately need for our shipyards."

"Any findings on our alternative search?" Rie asked.

"No...we have not found any signs of them. Yet. You know how hard it can be to locate their ruins so its going to take time."

Rie nodded slowly his orange eyes moving across the status monitors in front of him as he looked down to the main bridge from the slightly elevated command deck.

"Sensor reading sir!" Called out the sensor chief.

"Bring it up."

"Traces of hyperspace activity and ion trails. Coming from the single planet just beyond the asteroid belt. Looks to be a out of the way space hub."

"Move the fleet forward slowly...see if any official holonet traffic is emitting from that planet."

Turning to Tiet. "Launch our welcome forces."

Tiet nodded and walked to the communications station issuing orders for the fleet to break into a three prong wedge formation and to launch its first wave of fighters. They had no intent on being hostile but they would defend themselves if needed.

"There is communication traffic sir. A welcome message has been sent to us but appears to be automated."

Rie looked over the sensor data that was in front of him. Rubbing his chin he sighed.

"Ready a shuttle...I am going down to the planet."

"The Council...." Tiet began.

Rie cut him off. "The council does not dictate how I carry out my mandate."

Nodding with a smile Tiet turned and continued with his work. Rie left the bridge and headed down to the secondary hangar where a small contingent of black armored troops had gathered. His BlackHand Guardsmen. They boarded the shuttle and launched with a three fighter escort the rest of the Dominion force halted their advance leaving the shuttle and fighters alone in the space between them and the planet.

They would be making planet fall in about 30 minutes their target the largest city they had identified as the central hub of activity on this planet.

Entering the atmosphere they still had no response to their hails other than an automated welcome message. Rie knew it could be some kind of trap for he had seen it before but the resources in this system proved vital for his efforts at stabilizing their small sliver of the galaxy.

Visions of the Damned.

[Approximately 10 years after the events of Titanfall]

The stars shown infinitely all around the field of vision visible from the view port that encompassed the entirety of one side of the room. Darkness covered the room, not a light in sight save for what you could see in deep space.

Darkness...he liked it this way. Prefered it to the light. In a lot of ways it matched his demeanor over the last decade. He had never forgiven himself and he knew he never would. Their deaths would forever be on his soul just as all the others he had failed, lost, watched die because of his unwavering devotion to the common good. To the betterment of the universe no matter what it did to him and those he swore protection over. His body was a testament to this covered in scars. Over half his body had been rebuilt and was now machine, cybernetic.

A deep breath broke the eerie silence of the darkened room as objects softly  became visible as they drifted in mid air around a central figure that sat still as a statue save for the light rise and fall of his shoulders.

Sweat covered his naked upper body as he struggled to maintain a state of heightened meditation. Struggled to maintain a center. Visions of death, destruction and the ghosts of all he had known flashed before his closed eyes as he struggled to move past, to find that state of peace he had for so long struggled to find. The Sith way had not given it to him as had not the Jedi way...too simple too single viewed. Nothing. NOTHING!

Suddenly everything that was suspended in the air shot outwards and disintegrated before it hit the walls his anger and frustration winning once more. The dim red lights of the training room turned on illuminating the lone figure that sat knelt in the center atop the symbol of his clan, his family...what little there was left of it. The only consolation being that this same symbol was also the symbol of the Dominion...a government that had thus far...stood the test of time and three civil wars.

A chime at the opposite side of the room drew his attention back to the present. Sighing he stood up and wiped sweat from his face with a black towel. Tossing it to the side as he used the force to activate the door control which then opened with a hiss.

Tiet stood waiting as he nodded and walked in holding several data pads in his hands.

"Busy morning?" Rie said with a chuckle.

A smirk crossed the aging man's face. Admiral Von Tiet was the supreme commander of all Dominion Military forces and he also was Rie's best and possibly only friend. They had gone through the Imperial Academy together so long ago that that government no longer existed. What a thought.

"I have two status updates for ongoing projects and a very lively letter from the High Council demanding to be briefed on your latest...er efforts in Dimension 20056." Tiet said softly as he held up the data pads like a deck of cards.

Taking one Rie looked over the information on it. They were always in some kind of research project either for a new tech or for something to do with the inter-dimensional gateways that they used daily to control territory in over thirty different dimensions. Setbacks...of course.

"I will deal with the High Council after I check out a lead I have dug up on the Oris system."

"Oris system? I have not seen that mentioned in any of the ongoing research projects?" Tiet said arching an eyebrow in curiosity.

"It's one of my personal projects. Im playing it close to the chest." Rie responded.

"So I assume you were going to tell me after you had already left eh?"

Rie smiled softly and nodded. "Makes it easier that way...don't have to have all that damn security follow me."

Tiet could not help but laugh. He had been in Rie's shoes ten years ago when Rie had almost died and had to be in recovery for almost a year. He had had to take up his mantle and deal with the civil war that had broken out...all cause of Thorin.

"I'll just pretend that I did not hear that and on your way you can go. I will keep the council at bay until you return."

Rie put his hand on Tiet's shoulder and thanked him. Then he was off to his quarters where he packed a few things and changed into his travel gear which included a form of light black armor and his two lightsabers as well as a small blaster he stashed in the back of his belt.

Leaving the Titan's Fist's secondary hangar aboard his personal shuttle the Dark Passion. His destination Oris IV.
