My Brother's keeper.
This was becoming sinister in nature. A wealthy philanthropist by the name of Chris Belloc had reached out to Pax for help. He hired Michael and his team to negotiate the return of his newborn baby. His wife and mother of the child, Alice had taken their daughter shortly after returning home from the hospital. Mr. Belloc believed his wife sought enough money to leave him. That she suffered from postpartum depression, but the more Michael learned of this women the more he was convinced her motives were far Sinister.
He stood in the middle of Thorpe's living room as his team tried to get Alice back on the phone. Clenched in his hand was Alice's journal. A journal he found in a secret compartment of her room. In the journal, Alice described joining a cult. One that worshipped his Brother and sought to bring about the end of the world. His team passed it off as the ranting of a mad woman, but Michael knew better. The journal contained many demonic symbols. The woman was clearly a witch.
An evil creation of his Brother.'s The presence of witches had come about when Lucifer had given mortal women a way to tap into his power. It was his attempt to prove to their Father humanity was a failure and needed to be destroyed. Lucifer believed if given power humanity would always use it for personal gain. His plan failed when Michael convinced their Father that it was Lucifer's power that had corrupted the nature of these women, not their humanity.
Still, these women had willingly given in to darkness and could not be allowed entrance into the Silver City. Any woman who took the power of witchcraft automatically damned her soul in the process.
"We got her back, Michael," Regina said bringing Alice back on the screen. The Witch had hung up on them when Michael attempted to change her desire to a more peaceful one. "We want you, Michael. Your life for the baby. You are her protector, aren't you? I will send you directions to our location. It would be in everyone's best interest if you came alone." As soon as she was done speaking she hung up. Mr. Belloc immediately looked at Michael. "How does she know you?" He asked. "That's a good question. She obviously has friends in very low places." Michael replied.
This was a trap, but he had no choice but to go along with Witch's demand. "Mr. Belloc your wife is a witch. She's been brainwashed by evil into believing my Brother is some sort of herald of freedom. She has every intention of killing your baby no matter what I do." Michael said bluntly. "Mike I know your religious, but this isn't the time for your metaphorical bullsh*t." Regina sighed frustrated. "I have never lied to you." He responded to her hurt.
"I don't understand. But why? Why would she kill her own baby? This is insane." The man began to sob. "It's not a baby to her. It's just a weapon to hurt me. She intends to use the greatest gift God gave her to commit an offense against him." Michael didn't have time to explain this to him. "But she said she would give me Elaine back if you trade yourself. You can save her." He was a father. He could never accept the death of his child. "I promise you I will." He replied then headed for the door Regina followed closely behind him. "Mike I don't get it. Why kidnap a baby to hurt you? How do you know this woman?" She asked when they got to the exit.
"Because what she intends to do to the baby will hurt me greater than any mortal or celestial weapon could. I don't know her, but I imagine I know the demon pulling her strings very well. This case isn't our normal gig. I need to go alone. " Michael could tell she didn't want to hear that. "If you want to help me I need you to look after Pax while I'm in Las Angelus. I will need to go there as soon as I retrieve the baby. I will explain everything once I know everyone's safe."
As soon as he closed the door behind him he unleashed his wings then took to the sky. He didn't need the address provided to him all he had to do was go where hell smelt the strongest. It was a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. It had only taken him a few moments to get there by flight.
Michael crashed through the roof. It surprised the mortals long enough for Michael to strike first. "You know who I am right? Did you really think I'd use the front door?" They've betrayed their brethren he told himself to give himself the resolve to hurt these humans. Michael had spent millennia without having to resort to violence. This was his punishment for not returning Lucifer to hell. He would make sure to correct that mistake when he was done here.
As soon as he had landed he had determined that at least three of the ten humans in the room were in fact demons. He struck the most powerful of them first a palm to the chest sent the creature flying through the wall. When the humans in the room charged at him he sent them back with a flap of his wings. This would have been over within a second had he his sword. The last two demons were strong enough to withstand the force of his wings. They charged him each holding a celestial blade. Michael dodged the first's attack. He then grabbed its arm then turned its blade against him burying it inside the creature's chest.
Michael then took the blade and threw it into the last demon. The sound of a baby crying caused him to stand still. He turned to see Alice holding Elaine, a knife held to her throat. "Do it. Signal the end. He's here on Earth. You're here. What are you waiting for." Michael slowly began to release the Demiurge inside of him. "That's actually Gabriel's thing. He's the one with the horn." Slowly the power of the Demiurge began to overwhelm the human. As soon as Michael was in arm's reach Alice collapsed. The Angel swiftly grabbed the baby from her arms.
As Elaine began to coo peacefully in his arms he looked down at her mother. She was still human, but barely. He couldn't hurt her, but he couldn't leave her free either. He decided to call the police. He would have to trust the authorities could hold her and her coven at least until he could figure out a more permanent method to contain her. The demons, however, had to be killed.
Michael walked over to the demon he had sent through the wall. It was still alive. It was indeed strong. "Why? You had all of hell with no King to rule over you. Why did you have to come to Earth? Lucifer and I had put an end to the meaningless war." He bent down as the demon laughed. "The war will never end. If Lucifer will not lead us we will find another. We are humanity's end." As the demon spoke Michael reached down with one hand and took it by the throat. He let his divinity overwhelm the demon until it was no more.
"I didn't want this," Michael said before the creature completely deteriorated. A part of him wished he could have simply flown it back to hell. Maybe cause it looked so much like a human. But hells gates were open and any demon returned would only crawl out again. The brief peace between heaven and hell was now over. There was only one being who could possibly restore it.
Michael cradled Elaine. He tried to memorize the babies features to give him some resolve. "When I cast my Brother, Samael into hell it felt like I ripped out a part of myself." He told the baby. "Nothing since the beginning of time as ever caused me such pain. And now it seems I may have to do it again. If you ever come to a point in your life where you want to harm another human remember this is how much I love you and your kind. Remember this is what I have sacrificed for you and stay your hand."
Lux was exactly how he remembered it on the outside. He had only seen it once when he had helped create it. This would be his first time ever going inside. He couldn't help but smile at the sight. It was definitely his brother. The decor was impressive. His brother had good taste he had to give him that. It was nice seeing what Lucifer had done with something the had created together.
Michael made his way through the crowd. He watched the humans dance closely. They were uninhibited. The root of all human's desire was freedom. He supposed here his brother gave them a taste of what true freedom was like. He could feel Lucifer's presence but could not see him. His essence was intoxicating and his will was overwhelming. All angels were desirable to God's creatures. But Lucifer's presence was so intense it could be crippling.
The Archangel sat at the piano in the center of the club then began to play hoping to lure his Brother out peacefully. They had often sung as children. Samael had the loveliest voice second only to Gabriel. He couldn't remember the last time he had sung. A song had come to mind as he played and he began to see it.
Brother, why'd you have to go? You left us all so soon. Remember that song I wrote about your family years ago. Well, they're waiting for you to come home. What do I do? What do I say? And dad tells me to pray. So I prayed and prayed but the hurt won't go away. The pain gets worse, it never stops. And I've asked the Lord for us to swap
