Despite growing up as the younger sibling to one of the most popular kids at Hawkins High, Chet wasn’t spared from vicious bullying from everything to how he dressed, the art he made, how he carried himself but for the most part he was never willing to change who he was to try to fit in. Steve and Chet had grown up as close as possible until high school. Steve was worried about his status and girls and couldn’t bare to have his image dampened by his weird little brother and Chet was too stubborn to change for the sake of fitting in. he’s a bit of an outcast at school due in part to being queer in 1980s Indiana. In the summer just before the star court went up in flames Chet gets sent away to conversion therapy so he had no idea what was going on at the mall. When he returns for his junior year he tries his best to just be “normal” but it isn’t long into the year before Vecna murders chrissy and everything once again gets weird. After Vecna is supposedly destroyed, Chet thinks he’s having a nervous breakdown but actually Vecna has embedded himself into Chet’s consciousness and is leaching off him to regain his strength.
