Roan and Esme

PASTE BIN https://pastebin.com/TaL4qSvG

Roan was hiding in the darkness and lamenting the words he had exchanged with Sylvia (the dragon). He continued to stare, entranced by the superbly crafted cradle in the nursery. Esmay would never think to search for him there and he drifted off into a light slumber and dreamed...

Joy! Esmay returned his affection.

She loved him? Nay...just a dream to torment him!

Smiling together they glanced down at the tiny infant contentedly asleep in the cradle that had once held and rocked her. What a fair child, with rosy cheeks and dark hair, sleeping so peaceful, contented and....so cherished, so loved, not hidden away, forgotten and beaten like he often was.

She seemed sad about not having a child. If they were so blessed, Esmay could have a child she could love after he was long gone, part mortal and immortal. She would never be alone again and the thought pleased him.

He dreamed on and tears streamed down his face. Rogue tears he would never reveal to the world.

King Alban was at the very edge of Creek House now. He could see the lights from within the windows. He smelled smoke, the lingering stench of burnt flesh. Every muscle, every fibre of his being was at attention.

He used his staff to test the ground ere he took a step. As he suspected, a ring of magic guarded the outskirts. It was strong magic and he would have to call on the Power of the Ancient Ones to break its power.

He thought he could hear Roan's voice, laughter and that of a woman. His brother was in danger...a different sort of danger.

Roan felt his heart thud then there was the soft cry of the child, not strong but she was alive. "Dar Jee!!" Roan exclaimed as he felt on the verge of a flood of tears of joy. Estelle placed the babban in his arms and he felt her weight, a bundle light as feathers.

"She is so tiny...so sweet...." Roan uttered relieved. Kissing her he handed her to his wife to gaze upon the face of her newborn. "She looks like you." He smiled. "Not a wild brute like me."

Roan glanced thankfully to Estelle as the father and mother doted on their newborn.

"Hurl what insults you may at me nephew but you had best prepare for the fight of your life. You will be attacked by the McGimore's and the English will come, false friends. They will drive the Irish back then hang you and claim this their own dominion!" Alban warned seeing the visions pass before his own eyes.

"You are mad!!" Manfred rose from the throne and rushed down the steps so he faced Alban. They were nearly equal in height, Alban being slighter the taller but from his proud bearing Manfred seemed to be the one who towered like a giant. "Madman!! And, traitor!!"

"You have the gall to use such a word to me when you have in your veins the blood of those who would usurp us!! You are too friendly to the English. You have goaded them on. You shall see that is true ere the end come for you!!"

"You wish me dead uncle?? Kill me then if you can!!" Manfred's ire was on the rise as his hand went for the hilt of his dirk.

"I am not here to see the blood of my own kin spilled and not by my own hand. I am not here to claim the crown if that is what you fear. Wear it. I am here to council you that the enemy comes to dog thee at your heels!"

1 Corinthians Chapter 13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
