Writing Sample: Starter for Cinnabon!

(Lately ive been feeling really off on my writing...bashing myself more than normal for every time that people abandoned stories or belittled me for even the smallest flaws in what I wrote. Often people would treat me like garbage which made me delay my other posts for people. This one I ALMOST feel at least half decent about and decided to share it...)

Detective Mike Hawke...had seen all that hell had to offer...all that it had to present to itself...among the imaginings and realities of the world in which he lived and the idealized and truest forms of hell. Bearing mute witness to the worst things humanity held to offer few truly knew or understood what the detective had been through but the more he was coming to understand the magic of the world around himself the more his perspective was starting to be influenced as he saw the infinite possible realities between the worlds like a prism tuning in the possibilities of every ticking of the clock in which the quartz was imprisoned.

That October day had been a chill day while the detective had been called out to assist and report in on the report of a body found in a parking garage. With a number of detectives looking over the situation in particular - Ella Lopez gathering evidence of the victim itself - the plain clothes officers gathering witness statements and closing off the area to keep the press back and away from the scene. Standing among the scene Detective Mike Hawke's eyes rose trailing over the situation in which he had found himself knowing he would certainly be looking forward to coffee when he could get away from this situation. Dressed in his well tailored suit his over coat danced slightly on the breeze damp rain touched breeze hinting at the rain that was yet to come. It was a rather typical scene and he was sure he wouldnt be needed soon enough...

It was a movement sudden though it was as a figure lunged out from under and between several vehicles making a break for the exit stairway from the parking garage. Lunging forward shoving Ella Lopez who stumbled forward imbalanced by the impact sent forward towards an empty spot where parking cars had broken the railing away sending her pitching forward over the edge of the parking garage. Two fingers of Mike's hand at his belt brushing the surface of his badge at his waist where it was tucked into his belt - a glint of light that radiated for only a breath as the second hand of the folex on his wrist clicked forward...and stopped.

Tick...tick...---

It was a rumble - like air consistantly tumbling in upon itself shifting inward in a steady rolling effort of effectiveness - like the very heart of a hurricane ever present and strengthening in the last vestiges of itself. Building inward as the very air he was reaching through seemed to rip and tear at his arm like a tunnel of razors spiralling. It was a sacrifice - reaching out between two planes with an unshielded limb as his magic helped him to reach out through the most complex series of magic in the most simple effort. For the rest of the world in the moment he reached into the domain between the realities everything had frozen much in the way Amenadiel froze time in his presence but this wasnt angelic and wasnt limitless or without cost.

'Six Seconds...' the detective thought to himself as in one aspect of the reality in which he was presented with he had seen her - watching how Ella Lopez would stumble forward tripping over the edge to descend towards the pavement below the furthest railing of the parking garage to splatter as the body of the girl erupted like a blood filled water balloon on the pavement. Fingers curling gripping the waistband of her jeans at the small of her back muscles tensing. Like a round of combat in the pop culture game dungeons and dragons he had to do everything he could in the same span of time.

From between two realities he gripped Ella Lopez' waistband of her pants and pulled as in one reality Ella Lopez in the moments to follow would tumble certainly to her death - in the reality that was tumbling to fit in Detective Mike Hawke had rapidly crossed the pavement of the parking garage the suspect stumbling in the breath to follow the impact to shove Ella as Mike reached Ella and pulled her towards him away from the ledge.

---...tick...Tick

In a moment...an instant of time unlocking...Ella Lopez was pulled towards the detective pulled to his chest with an arm drawn arouund her and as time released once more a mirror exploded in the fragments of what time snapped like a bungee cord between the detective and the realities the erupting sound drawing the attention of plain clothes officers to grab the fleeing suspect while for Ella Lopez there had been a moment in time where she had stumbled forward only to be pulled back versus hurtling off the edge of the parking structure.

With one arm drawn around her waist he had pulled her back and away from the threat of a life lost to the cold filthy pavement below - the other arm hidden by the length of the sleeve of his coat felt cold as the slivers of crossing between the realities of worlds drew the all too familiar hint of crimson that graced down his flesh to drip towards the concrete beneath him.

"...Miss Lopez..." Mike Hawke spoke calmly and clearly pausing to take a look towards her a haze of amber and bronze glinting to momentarily glow in his eyes, "...are you alright...?"
