About me:
The only child of Patrick and Fiona Kelly, Thomas was born in July of 1981. A month after he was born though, the Kelly family's life took a dramatic turn. Patrick Kelly, a detective sergeant for the Garda Síochána, was working undercover, having infiltrated a smuggling ring when his cover was blown. Patrick managed to escape but knew that he and Fiona would have to go into hiding. Before doing so, they made the difficult desition to leave Thomas in the care of Fiona's brother, who was a Trappist monk at Mount St. Joseph Abbey. Fiona's brother and the other monks cared for Thomas closely as he grew up: teaching him the ways of the Trappists and the Catholic faith along with teaching him Latin, Greek, Irish and French. By far the biggest lessons the monks taught him was patience and observation, two things he applied to everything he did. As he got older, Thomas thought of becoming a monk but after being told of his father and who he was, along with what happened to his parents, Thomas decided to follow in his footsteps.
When he turned 18 he managed to enter Trinity College in Dublin, studying history and Irish. Outside of his studies Thomas was involved in the Judo and water polo teams, excelling in both during his four years at Trinity. After graduating, he entered the Military College for the Irish defense force, going through the officer training wing for the Irish army infantry, where he would stay for three and half years before joining the elite Army Ranger Wing. During his time in the army he met Shannon Boyle, who was in the Military Police Corps. He formed a friendship with her due to a shared Catholic faith and martial arts background that became a relationship, which was strengthened when Shannon learned of what happened in Thomas's early years and helped him find his parents along with the fact that the gang after them had all been arrested in the intervening years.
Thomas ended up marrying Shannon during his time in the Army Ranger Wing, starting a family with her a year later when Shannon gave birth to fraternal twins Thomas Jr and Colleen Kelly. Following their birth, Thomas opted to leave the army when his enlistment was up, joining the Garda Síochána like his dad had done. He made a name for himself, quickly becoming a detective. His work on an art theft case got the attention Det. Stella Bonasera, the head of the NYPD's crime lab. She offered him and Shannon positions after meeting with them face to face.
Now living in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood of Brooklyn, Thomas and Shannon added to their family with the addition of daughter Erin and son Connor.
