early life
Valeria Richards, the second child of the brilliant Dr. Reed Richards and the ever-resilient Susan Storm, was conceived in the Negative Zone, a factor that would lead to circumstances that were anything but ordinary. As the unborn Valeria approached her birth, she started emitting bursts of deadly radiation, endangering both herself and her mother. In a desperate bid to save Susan and their daughter, Reed summoned a cadre of the brightest minds and experts in radiationโBruce Banner, Michael Morbius, Walter Langkowski, and Otto Octavius. Together, they represented the pinnacle of scientific genius, but in the end, their efforts were in vain. Despite their valiant attempts, tragedy struck, and Valeria was stillborn. The heartbreak was palpable, a shadow cast over the Richards' family.
But there was another who felt the loss deeplyโFranklin Richards, their firstborn. He was supposed to be a big brother, a guardian to the sister he would now never meet. Yet, the universe, or rather Franklin himself, works in mysterious ways. Franklin, subconsciously using his vast psionic powers and unknowingly nudged by the Omniversal Guardian Roma, ventured back through the corridors of time to save his sister.
His powers transported Valeria from their native reality of Earth-616 to "someplace else"โa phrase that scarcely does justice to his achievement. This "someplace else" was Earth-99315, an alternate universe with its own stories and tragedies. Here, Susan Storm had found love once more, this time with a heroic Doctor Doom, following the death of her first husband. In this reality, Valeria was to be their first child together. However, due to the nature of Franklin's interference, Valeria's genetics are...uncertain. Was she still purely the offspring of Reed Richards, or had the change in realities woven the genetics of Victor von Doom into her as well? It's a mystery seemingly without answer, but one thing was crystal clearโDoctor Doom stood by Susan through a tumultuous birth, ensuring both mother and daughter survived this time around. He raised Valeria, showering her with love and care, and in her heart, it was Victor von Doom whom she recognized as her father.
In the whirlwind world Valeria grew up in, life was anything but ordinary. Close to her heart were her eclectic mix of companions: Caledonia, a courageous member of Roma's Interdimensional Corps and a future legend in her own right within their Earth's Fantastic Four; Lancer, a fiercely loyal mutant bodyguard sworn to her father; and her mischievous stepbrother, whom she affectionately dubbed Sparky. Sparky had a knack for getting under their mother's skin, using his powers to embark on what he called "time-dancing" escapades.
As Valeria transitioned from a curious child into a daring young woman, her adventurous spirit only intensified. Sensing the emerging powers and the fearless streak in her, her father took it upon himself to design a suit of armor for her. It was both a mantle of protection and a symbol of her burgeoning identity as his successor. At the tender age of eleven, amidst the grandeur of the Baxter Building's throne room, Valeria was formally recognized as Doom's heir. Yet, the joys of this honor were soon overshadowed by heartache as her father and her beloved uncles, Ben and Johnny - known far and wide as the Thing and the Human Torch - made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world.
Grieving yet resolute Valeria, now the 14 year old ruler of Latveria & accompanied by Franklin Richard's found herself on the Blue Area of the Moon, standing before the memorial statue made by Alicia Masters. It was here, in a moment suspended between time and space, that she and Franklin experienced a strange moment where they communicated with temporally displaced echoes of Reed, Ben, and Johnny.
Valeria, however, seemed uninterested in if not almost disdainful of Reed and soon moved on. During one of the Fantastic Four's excursions in Paris, Valeria "time-danced" into the present day of Earth-616, landing at Pier Four. There, she was reunited with a younger Franklin and his guardians, Caledonia and Alyssa Moy. But tranquility was fleeting, shattered by the sudden onslaught of Bounty, an interdimensional hunter with eyes set on capturing Caledonia. Without hesitation, Valeria leaped into action to defend her friend. Yet, their skirmish was interrupted by the formidable Bacchรคe, warrior women under the command of the Amazon Queen Hippolyta, seeking retribution against the Fantastic Four for past grievances.
The ensuing chaos saw Valeria and her companions kidnapped, brought before the vengeful god Pluto and Hippolyta. Amidst the looming dread, Caledonia fearlessly dueled with Hippolyta and won, earning the ire of Pluto who banished her to Tartarus. Determined to lose no more friends, Valeria led a daring rescue. Making use of the ability of Franklin's pet Puppy to teleport between realms they pursued Caledonia to Tartarus. Briefly stopping over in the Asgardian Hel and having a brief but chilling encounter with Hela. Their journey brought them to depths of Tartarus, where, against all odds, they managed to free Caledonia.
Led by Valeria they fought their way through the hordes of Tartarus and towards the inevitable confrontation with Pluto. When the time came it was Valeria who faced the Lord of Hades himself. Demanding he let them leave peacefully but ensuring him that he WOULD be letting them leave. It was this moment that first hinted at an inner darkness in Valeria. A drive to conquer that mirrored her father's. In a moment brimming with tension, Pluto's resolve wavered but in the end intervention came in the arrival of the Fantastic Four of Earth-616, joined by Hercules and Persephone. In the face of this, even the ruler of the underworld had to reconsider. And so, Valeria and her friends secured their freedom.
