Malina is well known as an incredibly intelligent student, who is very popular the school over, and is highly competitive in all things. She is the president of every club at school, the head of the Academy's news scroll, is a straight A+ student, and is a frequent voice of reason in the face of Kuzco and Kronk's many misadventures. She usually acts calm, reasonable and somewhat serious-- the latter occasionally scaring Kuzco and Kronk with it's severity (The Malina Stare)-- but can sometimes lose focus when she is competing for something and will go against her morals in an effort to be the best of the best.
She strives for perfection and order to an almost obsessive nature, to the point where she considers it "fun" to organize her sock drawer by size and color, wash verses dry clean, knee high verses ankle, rainbow vs argyle and toes verse non toes. It's staggering.
She can be very bossy and assertive, but also very empathetic and caring towards others. She is naturally curious and adventurous and enjoys Kuzco's pension for chaos, even if it means setting a large amount of time aside to making sure he stays on track with school so he can graduate and become Emperor. Malina is more than often the one to save Kuzco when Yzma/Amzy tries to keep him from graduating by turning him into animals, or otherwise deterring him from passing his classes. She also possesses an uncanny ability to figure out Kuzco's schemes as well as what he's thinking or planning without him speaking the ideas out loud, which often causes him to question how she was able to do it.
Biography
Malina is a peasant girl, who was born and raised on the hill besides Pacha's village in the Kuzconian empire. She lives with her mother, father and little sister in a homely hut, where she was raised to assist her father with their farming and llama herding, and her mother with crafting their own clothes and pottery items.
An intelligent child from a young age, Malina had always strived to attend school and become a noble in the Empire, with ambitions to become a Journalist and eventually attend Kuzford University. She is incredibly kind and generous, and is popular in the village for providing baked goods and foods for many festivities and different events. She loves to help her parents, and tutors her younger sister as well as many of the other children in the village. She's also become the go-to babysitter for most of the village families as one of the most responsible young people in the empire.
She never could have imagined meeting the Emperor the way that she had, nor attending school with him. But once she met Kuzco, and despite how infuriating he can be at times-- she considers it as a personal goal to make sure that he won't fail his classes despite Yzma's plotting, and will graduate Kuzco Academy to re-assume his position as Emperor. But it's not because she likes him or anything. Pfft.
Between you and me, however, and unsure entirely why-- she is drawn to him and eventually admits to liking him down the line. While she has many suitors of her own due to her beauty and intelligence, she finds herself jealous when Kuzco's attention is elsewhere-- including the time he almost gets married to assume the throne without having to graduate school. She makes it a point to avoid letting him know how she feels throughout the course of their education, determined to avoid allowing his ego to explode and reinforce the idea that he can have whoever he wants.
When she graduates Kuzco Academy, she accepts a position at the Kuzconian Times as a journalist and reporter, with aspirations to eventually attend Kuzford University and continue her education. She also finally agrees to date Kuzco, and the two of them begin a relationship with him hopeful to make her his Empress in the future.
