Ember

Ember is a 26 year old half-Fae, half-human woman. She was abandoned as a babe in a small village between the outskirts of the Spring and Summer realms in the Faelands, where she was subsequently adopted by a rude, cruel woman named Dagmar. Dagmar did not care for Ember, and constantly made that clear to the youngling. She was always sent to do ridiculous chores, usually under the guise of 'fetching things' or 'running errands' for her surrogate mother. During her free time as a child, Ember didn't have many friends - the children in the village grew to hate her due to the racism taught by their own parents, and Ember soon found solace in the forests surrounding the village, chasing will-o-the-wisps, taking naps in the grass, and eventually being called back to fix dinners for her surrogate mother at the small age of six. As Ember grew, she became less tolerant of Dagmar. One such instance occurred when Dagmar attempted to sell her for enough coin to get a drink, and the buyer brought her back after learning of her lineage. Ember had refused to do chores or run any errands for Dagmar for weeks after, enduring lashings and any other means of physical abuse that the woman threw at her. On the Eve of her 17th birthday, Ember was told to pack a traveling bag of clothes and leave. She did so, even though she had nowhere to stay, and headed off into the Summer Realm to try and find work. Things became difficult for Ember until one day, a seedy, cloaked figure offered her a job. "Kill this person for me, and I'll give you 100 gold." For any Fae, 100 gold meant the difference between life and death for a week. It meant being able to rent a bed to sleep in, and a hot meal in her belly, along with a bath to cleanse her tired, aching body. She accepted the contract, and killed the person - who had been an innocent, a mother of three, with a bad habit of scamming her customers that flocked to her shop in search of cures for the worst ailments. Ember had weighed her options, and decided that slicing her throat and disposing of the body in the river was the best way to do it. She met with the figure that had offered her the contract at an undisclosed time and day, and received her payment. Thus, Ember found her job. She took on contracts for all types of people - innocents who had done nothing more than cheat on a lover, evil men that had participated in selling slaves for unspeakable crimes, and morally grey beings that had done a lot of bad in their lives, but were trying to turn things around. This weighed on Ember, and soon enough, she began to dissociate after her first few kills, allowing something darker to take over and commit the crimes so that she could survive. It wasn't another person that came out when the darkness flooded her vision - she had gathered that much information - but rather, the very embodiment of her shadow self - the darkest parts of her, come to take over and keep Ember's soul protected. The shadow that learned to take over during Ember's darkest moments soon deemed herself 'Raven'. The two co-exist in fair harmony, and both of them have become something akin to sisters over the eight years they have been together. Ember was able to survive fairly well with this job, and even got to visit the human lands on multiple occasions, where she saw New York City & Los Angeles most frequently, where plenty of Fae seemed to flock to if they were running. Unfortunately, Ember had an enemy of her own. It was not a scorned family member, or vengeful friend that came after her, but rather the second-in-command of Lady Nesta - a dark and powerful Fae that was intent on taking over the Fae lands and using them for her own ominous intentions. Lady Nesta's second-in-command, Oleander, beat Ember to a pulp, and tossed her into a portal to the human realm, where she landed in an unknown area of the human realm. There, she met a friend that would go on to help heal her, and get her back on her feet. They fought off a few more assassins that tried to make attempts on her life, and extracted valuable information from said mercenaries, before slaughtering them in cold blood. Afterwards, the two parted ways, hoping to see each other as soon as later on that week, but due to Ember knowing nothing about the human realm she ended up in, and an oversight on her friend's part, she ended up lost, and stayed in the forests around the main city. After some time, she met another male named Zabor, who had a dark and powerful secret of his own lurking within him. The two of them felt a connection nearly instantly, and after Ember saved Zabor's life, she had one bequest - food, and a place to sleep. Zabor obliged, and after a series of events, Ember found that she was bound by a curse placed by one of her ancestors to be fated mates with the darkness inside of Zabor. Shenanigans ensued, and the friend who saved her initially appeared at the bar seemingly by coincidence, and the three of them decided to see if they can break the bond between Zabor and Ember, find Nesta and uncover why she wants the Fae woman dead, and restore peace to all of their lives. For now, Ember continues her travels on Earth, and hopes to visit other planets and places when she has free time.
