The Key Holder

His eyes opened slowly on this particular day. The immortal Original Hybrid Klaus Mikaelson had been the victim of magical spells before, but this one was one for the record books. Moving his bare feet to the side of the bed, he felt the cold ground underneath. A hand moved to his head to lace into his golden curls. Something was wrong. Exactly what, he wasn't sure.

Wearing only a pair of pajama pants, Klaus made his way into the light of the courtyard. The sound of his shuffling feet filled his hearing. He sat himself down at the table waiting for the staff of the Abbatoir to tend to him or for his sister Freya to emerge from her bedchamber with her wife Keelin. He seemed to remember some sort of a magical spell his Elder Sister placed on him that had counteracted something. What was it again? . "Freya… Elijah…." His voice was pitiful because his head was throbbing. "Bloody magical wankers…" He swore.

There was a woman who approached him with a goblet in her hand and a bandage on her wrist. "Good morning, Mr. Mikaelson." She told Klaus while showing a healthy respect to him and for him.

Klaus grumbled some more before taking the goblet from her hand. The scent of fresh blood was always a benefit especially when his disposition was not exactly sunny one. He lifted the goblet to his lips and started to drink. The reenergizing power of fresh blood always seemed to put him in a better mood, but something was still off. He took the goblet of blood and returned to his room grumbling something unintelligible about witches.

He generally had no use for witches. Even the fact his eldest sister was a witch irritated him to a certain degree. Witches were only good when they were needed to undo things like curses. His thoughts drifted back some ten years ago when he first returned to Mystic Falls to finally break the curse to become a fully recognized Hybrid once more. The witches had uses then alright. His disposition was starting to improve after thinking about the slaughter that he'd partaken while in Mystic Falls. Even amongst it all something he'd never anticipated actually did happen. Klaus Mikaelson fell in love.

Looking at the fourth finger of his left hand, he saw a ring there that had been placed there by her. Caroline Forbes, the blonde vampire that had enraptured his heart back in Mystic Falls was his wife. He'd swept into town after the death of Stefan Salvatore and snatched her into his life and his bed to make her his wife. He was obviously in New Orleans, but where was his Caroline?

His cell phone sitting on the desk in his room sounded. He'd missed a call as he'd meandered into the courtyard for something to eat. He picked up the phone and listened to the message that had been from his wife.

Klaus, I'm sorry for the delay. We've had a few things happen at the school. It isn't anything you need to worry about. Alaric and I are handling the whole thing. Hopefully it shouldn't take too much longer. I miss you and I love you! See you soon.

The message came through from Caroline with her usual charm and personality. Klaus managed a crooked grin. After all this, he'd still managed to follow through on his pledge to her that Tyler Lockwood was her first love and he would be her last. It was obvious he was again right. Klaus tapped the screen on the phone and sat it aside. He had to prepare for his day.

The Original Hybrid moved into his closet to find a suitable shirt and a pair of blue jeans for this warm day in New Orleans. As he walked out of the closet, he saw a picture on his dresser that caught his eye. He was in said picture but there was a young girl in it as well that seemed to be quite familiar with him and to him. He just could not recall who she was. "What the devil?" He declared. Finishing his goblet from breakfast, he kept this picture in hand. He had to see if there were more pictures of this child elsewhere in the Abbatoir.

Klaus carried this picture into the hall. He saw more images of this girl by herself and in other pictures with him and even with him and Caroline's Twins. He knew Josie and Lizzie but the other girl. He kept trying to remember who this girl was. The more he strained to remember, the more his head was hurting. "NO!" He growled as he threw the picture in his hand across the room. The glass of the frame shattered into a shower of tiny rainbows as each piece reflected the sun. Why couldn't he remember? What was happening to him?

Angry footsteps of the Original Hybrid took him out of his home and into the city of New Orleans. He had to see if any of the places he frequented had more pictures of this girl. This was a mystery and Klaus hated mysteries. He was the Key Holder and right now he held none.
